Chicago will become the second major city after New York to ban e-cigarettes from most indoor public places, after the city council passed an ordinance Wednesday in a 45-4 vote.
The measure backed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel will prohibit people from smoking e-cigarettes in restaurants and bars, the Chicago Tribune reports. Under the ordinance, retailers will have to sell e-cigarettes more discretely from behind the counter, making it harder for minors to buy them.
New York was the first major city to pass an e-cigarette ban in December. While proponents of the law say it prevents children from becoming addicted to smoking, some critics have argued e-cigarettes help smokers quit.
