A snowplow fatally struck a pregnant woman in New York City Thursday, but medical experts were able to save her baby.

Police identified the victim as 36-year-old Min Lin, who was eight months pregnant, CBS News reports. The privately owned plow hit her at around 10:45 a.m. in a shopping center parking lot in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

Police said Lin was rushed to the hospital, where doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section to save her unborn child. The child is in a stable condition, but Lin died at the hospital.

The driver of the snowplow remained on scene, but authorities had not arrested anyone as of Thursday afternoon.
