A Pennsylvania girl whose final wish led to thousands of Christmas carolers singing outside her home passed away Wednesday morning, according to a family spokesman.
Delaney Brown, 8, had been battling a rare form of leukemia since May. According to family spokesman Christopher Winters, Brown died at her home, the Reading Eagle reports.
Thousands of people drew national attention when they congregated outside Brown’s home Saturday and sang Christmas carols to fulfill her last wish. The singalong culminated with “Happy Birthday,” in honor of Brown’s birthday last Friday.
The Brown family posted a statement on its Facebook page Wednesday confirming Brown’s death.
“My heart breaks right now. Our little angel on earth earned her pink glittery angel wings in heaven. She took her last breath at home in her bed at 3:10 surrounded by all her family and friends. I miss her so much already,” the statement said. The Browns also thanked supporters for their well wishes.
Brown also had a chance to speak with pop star Taylor Swift on her birthday through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
