A 24-year-old man in a Santa suit was hit and killed by a car on a Philadelphia expressway Saturday after a Christmas-themed foot race.
Adam Herr, of Lebanon, Pa., had somehow ended up on foot on Interstate 95 when 27-year-old Augustine Bangura hit him with his car, police said. Bangura, who was allegedly driving with a suspended license, failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, the Philadelphia Daily News reports. Police said his car smelled of marijuana.
Herr was in town earlier for the Running of the Santas race. It is unclear how he ended up on the highway on foot; he was at dinner with friends when they “turned around and he was gone.”
“We have very little information about what went on,” Herr’s father Dennis Herr said.
Herr was pronounced dead at Hahneman University Hospital.
