“To love, honor and obey” may take on new meaning for a Maine couple, who went head to head in a local election Tuesday that left the wife victorious.
Democrat Jennifer Johnson bested her Republican challenger, who just happened to be her husband David Johnson, for a warden seat in Waterville, Me. Jennifer beat David 126 votes to 76 votes, the Morning Sentinel reports.
The newly-elected Jennifer Johnson said the couple entered the race to highlight the importance of public service and to encourage people to vote. Mission accomplished on the first front: Their matrimonial battle garnered significant statewide attention.
