A private multimillion-dollar jet ran off the runway at a California airport Sunday evening and crashed into a hangar, exploding in a deadly inferno, the local NBC affiliate reports.
Mark Benjamin, CEO of the company Morley Construction, was believed to be on the plane with his son Luke, the Associated Press reports. Investigators were still on the scene Monday, but the local fire chief called the downing of the twin-engine Cessna at Santa Monica Airport an “unsurvivable crash”
The plane took off from Hailey, Idaho. The Citation line of jets costs from $3–$26 million, and can seat five to nine people.
