A South Texas man convicted of stabbing another man to death for $50 was executed by lethal injection in Texas Thursday, the Associated Press reports.
Arturo Diaz, 37, was put to death for the 1999 slaying of Michael Nichols, 25, who was bound with shoelaces and bedding and stabbed 94 times before being robbed of $50. Diaz was also serving sentences for attempted murder and robbery of another man who survived, and for raping a jail inmate.
Diaz, who said he was high on drugs and alcohol when he murdered Nichols, also confessed to killing another man a month earlier by stomping his head and beating it with a hammer.
