The Supreme Court will hear the case against the contraception mandate in the Affordable Care Act on Tuesday, Mar. 25.
The court will hear cases by two companies owned by religious people who say providing contraceptive coverage violates their religious beliefs, NBC reports. Advocates are concerned that if the companies win their case, Obamacare could be destroyed by business owners cherry-picking what coverage they want to provide.
The two businesses are arguing that if corporations have the right to political speech, as decided in Citizens United, then they should also have the right to religious freedom. Religious organizations are already exempt from this portion of Obamacare.
The Affordable Care Act requires that contraceptive coverage be included as a basic preventative service.
