Police in Florida are trying to piece together clues in a grisly murder-suicide that claimed the lives of three family members, and nearly killed another.
Broward County Sheriffs suspect Pedro Maldonado, 53, shot his wife and their 17-year-old son with a crossbow on Monday, then drove to Tallahassee to attack his older 21-year-old son the next morning. But the older son managed to escape after he was grazed in the ear with one of the arrows, according to the police report. Police say the son did not report the attempt on his life to authorities, but it’s unclear why.
Later that day Maldonado called a friend to admit the killings, who in turn notified authorities. Police went to the Maldonados’ Weston, Fla., home to find the wife and son dead. They then tracked Maldonado’s SUV to a hotel in Lake City, Fla., where they found him dead of a self-inflicted knife wound to his throat.
