A Texas high school is considering joining the ranks of schools that have recently allowed teachers to carry guns for protection.
The idea gained traction late last year in response to the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., and has resurfaced after the this week’s shooting in Sparks Nev., where a math teacher was killed by a 12-year-old boy who then turned the gun on himself.
Under the proposal, teachers at Brenham ISD in Washington County with a concealed handgun license would receive law enforcement training that would qualify them to keep a gun in a safe on school grounds.
