A student who witnessed Monday’s school shooting in Nevada described the terrifying experience of running from the shooter who opened fire on a basketball court, killed a teacher, wounded two students and then killed himself.
“We looked back toward where we saw the noise, and we saw the kid pull out his gun and shoot the kid in the arm,” Jose Cazares said Tuesday on the Today show. “So then they started running and I froze because he was aiming his gun right at my chest. And I looked at the gun and my chest like, ‘He’s going to shoot me.'”
“I turned around and I ran,” he said.
Cazares said Michael Landsberry, the math teacher killed in the shooting, approached the shooter, said to be another student, and told him to put down the gun, extending his hand to take the weapon.
“And then the kid, he yelled out ‘No!’ yelling at him, and he shot him,” Cazares said.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the name of the shooter, a possible motive, or how the student obtained the weapon. The two injured students are in stable condition.
