The midshipman who has accused three Naval Academy football players of sexual assault during a crowded party at an off-campus house in Annapolis, Md., has admitted under oath that heavy drinking affected her memory of the night in question.
Testifying for more than two hours at a preliminary military hearing held Wednesday at the Washington Navy Yard, the alleged victim said she only pieced together what had happened on April 14, 2012, through Twitter and Facebook posts and academy gossip.
Midshipmen Tra’ves Bush and Joshua Tate face possible charges of aggravated sexual assault while Midshipman Eric Graham could face charges of abusive sexual contact. The case has made headlines amid rising concern regarding sexual assaults in the military. The Pentagon estimates that as many as 26,000 service members were assaulted last year.
