A woman was arrested in Norwalk, Conn. Wednesday for breaking into a pet store and trying to “set the puppies free,” local police said.
Local newspaper The Hour reports that Anouk Govil, 23, attempted the break-in at Puppies of Westport early Wednesday morning by smashing the door in with a rock.
The University of Connecticut student was wearing a puppy-print pajama shirt when she was caught by an officer patrolling the area.
When the officer questioned her, she admitted she was trying to free the young canines.
Govil has a history of involvement with animal rights causes. She started a petition on change.org to convince actor and cat-enthusiast James Franco to abandon a commercial that featured a tiger.
Govil was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and will appear in court on Jan. 21.
