Two children were shot when a gunman opened fire at a New Mexico middle school on Tuesday.

A 14-year old boy and a 13-year old girl were airlifted to a hospital in Texas after the shooting in Roswell, N.M., a University Medical Center spokesperson told KOB4. A Roswell hospital also confirmed that two students were hospitalized, and it was not yet clear whether those were the same two students airlifted to Texas.

Roswell police said on Facebook that Berrendo Middle School had been placed on lockdown and that the shooter had been apprehended.

Students were driven to a nearby mall, where they met their parents, NBC News reports.
