Officials near Pittsburgh are appealing for witnesses after shots were fired outside of Steak ‘n Shake restaurant, leaving one man critically injured with a head wound.

The 20-year-old victim was apparently sitting in his car by the Waterfront in Homestead, around seven miles southeast of downtown Pittsburgh, at around 8 p.m. when he was shot in the head by unknown assailants.

According to a local CBS affiliate, two African Americans were seen fleeing the scene on foot and were later picked up in a nearby vehicle in the possession of heroin.

“One of the things we look for is motive, and the drugs being present lends itself to some type of illegal activity prior to the shooting,” said Lt. Andrew Schurman told the news outlet.
