A Colorado six-year-old who kissed his “girlfriend” on the hand in class was suspended for sexual harassment on Monday, prompting his mother to criticize the school for overstepping.

First-grader Hunter Yelton was home from school Monday after the incident. “This is taking it to an extreme that doesn’t need to be met with a six-year old,” Hunter’s mom, Jennifer Saunders, told KRDO. “Now my son is asking questions… what is sex, mommy?”

Saunders said it was a harmless peck between two children who have a crush on each other. Hunter had previously gotten in trouble for kissing the same girl on the cheek. He was also once suspended for rough-housing.

“I have a lot of energy,” Hunter said. “I mean, six-year-olds. They have a lot of energy.”

Hunter was expected back to school on Tuesday, and the school district superintendent said his repeat offenses amounted to its definition of sexual harassment.
