A Colorado judge has ruled that a cake-shop owner must provide cakes for same-sex weddings despite his religious beliefs.

Jack Phillips, who owns Masterpiece Cake Shop in suburban Denver, has said that making cakes for same-sex weddings violates his Christian beliefs, the Associated Press reports. Judge Robert N. Spencer ruled Friday that the shop will face fines if it continues to refuse service to gay customers.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a complaint on behalf of Charlie Craig and David Mullins, who were married in Massachusetts but wanted to celebrate their wedding in Colorado with a cake.
