President Barack Obama extended the deadline for healthcare coverage by one week, administration officials said in a conference call to reporters Friday.

Americans have been given until Dec. 23 to sign up for a plan in order to be covered by Jan. 1, the Los Angeles Times reports. Obama moved the deadline, which was initially Dec. 15, in the wake of the healthcare.gov website’s glitchy launch.

The extension is the latest effort by the White House to mitigate damage caused by site malfunction for the Affordable Care Act. Officials announced on Thursday next fall’s open enrollment period would begin in November rather than October.
