University of New Mexico students exit the "Voting Trolly" at a stop on campus in Albuquerque, N.M., on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2013.

Residents in New Mexico’s largest city firmly voted against a referendum on Tuesday that would have banned late-term abortions.

According to a report by Associated Press, Albuquerque voters rejected the initiative by a whopping ten points.

The ballot, which was the first of its kind in a municipality, sparked a heated debate across the city and saw fierce campaigning from activists on both sides of the issue.
