A new Gallup poll reveals that 61 percent of Americans still believe that other people besides gunman Lee Harvey Oswald were involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy — the lowest percentage in nearly 50 years.

When asked to name the people involved other than Oswald, 40 percent of Americans sampled did not name anyone, while 13 percent said “the Mafia,” 13 percent said the federal government,” and 7 percent said “CIA.”

The poll is based on phone interviews Nov. 7-10, 2013 with a random sample of 1,039 adults ages 18 and over, and the margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points.

Nov. 22 will mark the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination.
