In this Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 photo, a Dallas Police Department memorial badge for patrolman J.D. Tippit is displayed in Dallas.

Marking the 50th anniversary of assassination of former President John F. Kennedy, Dallas police are honoring the policeman who stopped Lee Harvey Oswald by wearing a special badge throughout November.

Officer J.D. Tippet, 39 years old at the time, was shot by Oswald after stopping him nearly an hour after Kennedy was shot in 1963, based on a description of the suspected shooter.

The money raised from selling the badges will go to helping injured officers and their families.
