A 31-year-old Texas man survived being struck by lightning twice during the same storm at an off-road mud-racing event on Saturday.
Casey Wagner was standing under a tree during a heavy storm at the “Rednecks with Paychecks” race event in Saint Jo, Tex., when he was struck by lightning,” the local CBS affiliate reports. After collapsing to his knees, Wagner was again hit by lightning. An onlooker who happened to be a nurse assisted Wagner until he was taken to the nearby Nacona General Hospital. Wagner was treated and released without any serious injuries.
Doctors said a plastic poncho he was wearing could have contributed to attracting the lightning by carrying too much static, according to Wagner.
