The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating an incident in which two transit workers were killed by a San Francisco Bay Area commuter train on Saturday.
Officials from the NTSB said on Sunday that the train, which was not carrying passengers because of a transit workers strike, did not have a front-facing video recorder; however, interviews, audio recordings and footage from other cameras should allow them to determine the cause of the accident.
The two workers were inspecting a section of track in the East Bay city of Walnut Creek on Saturday when they were struck by the train; they are the sixth and seventh workers to die on the job in the 41-year history of Bay Area Rapid Transit system. NTSB officials are investigating whether BART uses devices workers can attach to rails that give approaching trains a stop signal.
