Older Americans are prepared to work later into their lives, acknowledging a new reality of economic ground lost during the recession, according to a new poll.

About 82 percent of Americans older than 50 said it’s at least somewhat likely they’ll work for pay during their retirement, the Associated Press poll found. And 47 percent said they expect to retire later than they had previously thought planned.

“At this age, my dad had already been retired 10 years and moved to Florida,” 65-year-old Tom Sadowski, a graphic designer, told the AP. He said he had expected to retire this year, but pushed that date back at least five years. “Times are different now for most people.”
