Boston bus drivers unexpectedly went on strike Tuesday morning, forcing the police to get involved — by helping kids get to school

One student was even seen exiting a police cruiser at the Blackstone School in Boston’s South End, the Boston Globe reports. Police were also directing children to public transportation, which was free Tuesday for students with valid ID.

Only 30 of the school system’s 650 buses were operating Tuesday morning, stranding more than 30,000 children, following a disagreement between the transportation vendor and the union that represents the drivers.
