In Colorado, which has been pounded by as much as 15 inches of rain this week, hundreds of people are unaccounted for and at least four are confirmed dead as a result of rising flood waters, officials in the state said on Saturday.

On Saturday morning, CNN said that 218 people were unaccounted for, while The Denver Post reported that a 60-year-old woman is missing and presumed dead, as floodwater continues to devastate Northern Colorado. As of Friday morning, Boulder’s 25 square miles had been deluged by about 4.5 billion gallons of water. Officials expect the death toll to continue to rise throughout the weekend.

More rainfall was expected Saturday and Sunday. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said the challenge of recovery appears formidable and that “we have lost a great deal of infrastructure.”

President Obama has declared a state of emergency for Boulder, Larimer and El Paso Counties, and according to CNN, that has allowed FEMA to bring in four rescue teams — the largest deployment ever in the state.
