Raging Wildfires in California Seen From Space

California residents aren’t the only ones with a clear view of the Rim Fire burning near Yosemite National Park. NASA’s Aqua satellite captured the image using its Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS. Areas outlined in red indicate hot spots with “unusually warm surface temperatures associated with fire.” Officials said Tuesday the fire grew overnight from 252 to 280 square miles, but remained 20 percent contained.
