Sequestration? What Sequestration?

Three contract inquiries Wednesday make you wonder just how eager the U.S. government is to save money:

— The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, is seeking a gardening contractor who “shall, on Monday through Saturday except for holidays basis, remove leaves and pine needles” from embassy properties, including the “Ambassador’s Residence.” Not quite sure what will happen if the ambassador has a party set for Sunday…

 — The Department of Homeland Security is exploring the purchase of “Human Portable Tripwire (HPT) Radiological/Nuclear Detection and Identification System(s).” Added this to the list just because Battleland likes the sound of “Human Portable Tripwire.”

 — The U.S. Army wants to spend $30 million on “real property repair and maintenance, design build, environmental work, force protection work, and construction services in the areas for U.S. Forces and/or Facilities throughout Romania.” Apparently, the Dracula threat persists.

It all seems a bit rich for a nation that isn’t.
