Winter-weary Americans will have to endure still more freezing temperatures and travel delays as the calendar turns to March next week, with a new wave of cold weather bearing down on the country from California to New York.

California was bracing for snow and rain to fall on the parched state Friday, which could bring relief from drought but also the danger of flooding and mudslides  where recent wildfires have left hillsides bare. Snow is expected to move east across the Rocky Mountains on Saturday. A swath of the Midwest from Oklahoma to Ohio will see ice and snow on Sunday as the storm system grows in intensity before thrashing the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast with more winter weather into Monday, according to Weather.com.

More than 100 million people are expected to feel the winter weather’s wrath, with airports from Kansas City to Washington, D.C., facing the prospect of travel delays and cancelations, Accuweather reports.
