Walter Williams in the hospital.

A Mississippi funeral home says it found a man alive and kicking in a body bag hours after the coroner pronounced him dead.

Walter Williams was pronounced dead Wednesday night after his pulse stopped, but funeral home employees found him trying to kick through his body bag Thursday morning.

Eddie Hester, Williams’ nephew, said Friday Williams is in the hospital and breathing without the help of a respirator, but is too weak to talk.

“It’s a miracle,” Hester said in an interview. “I don’t know how long he’s gonna be here, but right now he’s here, and the whole family is glad.”

Williams started to move right as the funeral workers were getting ready to embalm him. He was rushed to the hospital and is now in good condition. The coroner said William’s pacemaker may have stopped working and then re-started, which could explain his pulse stopping.

This is not a new phenomenon.  People have been erroneously declared dead for many centuries.  People have been buried alive and then when they became conscious, pulled a cord connected to a bell that was attached to a post next to the grave.  The ringing bell alerted the caretakers of the graveyard that someone was alive "down there" and the buried one would be exhumed.  Thus the saying "saved by the bell" came into common use.

To avoid this embarrassment, people were embalmed when they were pronounced "dead".  This way, if they were not really dead before the embalming, they certainly were after the procedure.

This man woke up too soon (before the embalming process started) or this story would have never made the "news."

This is a collossal failure on the part of the coroner.

The guy obviously doesnt know how to check a pulse.

The coroner is not even a medical doctor, he's an elected politician with zero medical training.  Maybe they need to start getting real doctors for coroners so people actually know what they are doing.

If the guy's heart stopped beating, the defibrillator would have gone off in SECONDS, not hours later.  For the coroner to say that his heart was stopped all that time and the defib fired off later means he doesnt know what he is talking about.

just like I also enjoy walks along a beach in the moonlight,or watching a sunrise or sunset....each place I have been holds a dear and special place in my heart......as each one was an experience in itself.and as you can tell...I am not a hater!

I love people that tell it like it is!

I have been all over the USA.and I loved visiting some places in Mississippi.nice small quiet laid back places.where a person can at least stop and hear themselves think for a minute or two.i wrote many many poems and mini stories when I travelled around. I just never bothered publishing my works.and I still have at least 90% of what I have written.

"Bring out your dead!"

"I'm not dead yet."

"Oh, shut up. You will be in a few days."

Is he "too weak to talk" or is his brain damaged from the lack of oxygen he endured for hours upon hours?

Does this mean that from now on, when someone is pronounced dead, they are entitled to a second opinion?

It's always a "miracle" when a doctor's skill saves a patient and now a "miracle" when a doctor is wrong about a patient being dead. There are good and bad doctors and a limit to the current level of medical knowledge. There are no miracles.

Just wait till he sees his chances of surviving under Obumer care.

No coverage for him, so it's back to the embalmer.

I wonder how many people this coroner has wrongly diagnose as being dead. I guess non until now has refuted the matter.

@Mongo23  this coroner guy was NOT a doctor.  He's an elected official who is clearly incompetent and doesnt know how to properly pronounce someone deceased.

There are many counties in the USA where you dont need any medical training at all in order to be a coroner.  It is ridiculous.

@LloydAnderson   Let Obumer's  "panel"  get hold of this.

They will give the embalmer a  remedial course in embalming.  From now on every  Mortuary  will have a large mallet to

expediting the  process.

A.doctor declared the patient dead. A coroner gets dead patients. You apparently have no clue.

@BobFlynn @DBAY @grassroot

It's Faux Knews.  Several surveys have shown that nearly all of their claims are lies.  At best, what they claim is false but true.
