The Department of Homeland Security warned airlines in the United States Wednesday that “very recent intelligence” indicates there may be a security threat to airplanes from explosives hidden in shoes.

Officials quoted anonymously by NBC News said airlines will be closely scrutinizing flights into the U.S. from abroad. The threat does not appear to have any connection to the Sochi Olympics.

According to officials, the intelligence did not point to any specific plot, or any particular airline, country or time.
