Nevada Withdraws Support for Same-Sex Marriage Ban

Nevada lawmakers rescinded efforts to uphold a state ban on gay marriage on Monday. The state Attorney General Catherine Corte Masto filed a motion to withdraw arguments from a pending appeal, and Gov. Brian Sandoval agreed with the move, according to the Associated Press. Eight-same sex couples have sued the state calling the law unconstitutional.

The state’s argument supporting the ban on same sex-marriage, which voters passed in 2002, would not hold up in court he said. In April 2013, the state Senate passed a resolution that would repeal the statewide ban. If the law passes again in 2015, citizens will vote on it in 2016.
