Colorado residents are worried the legalization of marijuana for recreational uses is making their state look bad, according to a new poll.
The Quinnipiac poll released Monday found that 51 percent of voters think the new law is bad for Colorado’s image. Democrats and Republicans are split on the issue, with 73 percent of Republicans saying legalization is bad and 57 percent saying it’s good. Fifty-six percent of independents think the law is hurting the state’s image, according to the poll. Voters split by age, too, with 57 percent of voters aged 18 to 29 saying the law is good for Colorado’s image and 67 percent of those 65 and older disagreeing.
Only 10 percent of voters say they’ve tried pot since it became legal on Jan. 1, but the majority of voters (51 percent) said they have tried it at some point in their lives.
The poll of 1,139 people, conducted from Jan. 29 to Feb. 2, had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
