Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that they will seek the death penalty for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing.

Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty, but the decision to seek the death penalty is not surprising. “The nature of the conduct at issue and the resultant harm compel this decision,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement.

The bombings occurred at the marathon finish line in April 2013, killing three people and wounding more than 260. Dzhokhar’s brother and alleged accomplice Tamerlan died during a police shootout following the search for suspects.

The brothers were Chechens from Russia who were living in the Boston area. Prosecutors allege that the two planted the bombs as retaliation against U.S. military action against Muslims.

A trial date has not been set yet.

He is a no good f-ing muslim like his mom and dad and dead brother. They are religious fanatics that kill all over the world for their beliefs and hatred. Kill the SOB muslim hes no dam good and deserves to die. he will get to live for around 20 more years before they kill the fanatic anyway. that is a hell of a lot more time then he gave that young boy. Cops should have shot the sob in the head while they had a bead on him.

Get rid of him ,he showed no mercy on his victims, Im glad the other one was killed, plus imaging paying for 50 or 60 years worth prison life for him.

Well, I vote for the rest of his life in solitary confinement with minimal necessities and forced labor, but, that's just me.

For the most part, I don't like the death penalty.  BUt I do like to be able to consider it, and apply it, in cases of premeditated murder, the murder of any on-duty (and some off-duty) police/fire/emt and for drug dealers.  This bombing was premeditated, and loss of life was intentional.

So, in a Federal crime does the death penalty mean death if convicted, or does it mean 50+ years in prison waiting for the needle that never seems to be ordered?

@stewiegriffin26

He killed an 8 yr old by when he placed his bomb filled backpack behind him. He deserves death as punishment. Let him feel the fear he caused others to fear. Besides, why should I pay to keep the creep alive?

@buckshott That depends on the recommendations of the jury and/or the opinion of the judge, after the evidence has been presented by both sides.  If he cops a plea, he'll likely be allowed to live, but only in custody, and only if he's in isolation.

Let it play out.
