Palin to Obama: Stop Playing the Race Card

The former Alaska Governor sent the message in a Martin Luther King Day Facebook post

Sarah Palin had a Martin Luther King Day message for President Obama, which she posted on her Facebook page after quoting King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech:

It’s not the first time the nation’s first African-American president has been accused of bringing unnecessary attention to his race, though Palin offered no specific examples of President Obama using the so-called race card.

In a recent New Yorker article, President Obama said the opposition his Administration faces could have something to do with his race.

“There’s no doubt that there’s some folks who just really dislike me because they don’t like the idea of a black President,” Obama said. “There is a historic connection between some of the arguments that we have politically and the history of race in our country, and sometimes it’s hard to disentangle those issues.”

During President Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, Sen. John McCain’s camp said Obama had played the race card and “played it from the bottom of the deck” during a speech in Missouri during which Obama said the GOP would use the fact that he “doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills” to keep people from voting for him.

Sarah Palin is a beacon of hope, without her and some of her allies, Obama would have completely transformed America into a dictatorship. Does he play the race card? Of course, nothing is his fault. Obama is the Sgt. Schultz (I see nothing, I hear nothing) of American politics. As to the small mined leftists commenting on this article, its time the whole lot of you learn how to be productive in society, like Sarah and her family.

Since she quit her post in Alaska,  Palin hasn’t run for public office but still plays the part of politician who calls her constituents “fans.”  What exactly does she do other than essentially proposition her self and image to the highest bidder?  Sounds like Sarah is America’s highest paid escort!  See how down and dirty she’ll get for the money at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/06/ecstasy-of-sarah-palin_15.html

Palin is a nutjob who is so cluless that she doesn't even have enough sense to realize how she's helping to dig the GOP's grave.  Christ, the woman is dumber than dirt.

Aside from what Palin said (actually this isn't even about her right now) Obama has played that card a few times and on a SMALL % he is right. Some people don't like him because of his color, however the majority of Americans who dislike him are NOT racist and don't care about what he looks like. They dislike him because they don't like what he is doing to America, they dislike his ethics and his political views. They want him out of office because he is no longer doing what is right and good for America but only for himself and his own select group of people (no- to those of you thinking I mean blacks, I don't) and I am with those Americans. We need someone new in office and we need someone now. If America waits till the next election then it won't even BE America anymore! It will be Obama-Land.

Why does the media keep referring to her as former this and that ? Her title is Mrs Sarah Palin . But she's had more than her 15 minutes in the spotlight .

Yes, who can forget all those impassioned speeches MLK gave where he asked black people to stop playing the race card. Sarah has been to the bullshi+ mountaintop.

Pretty sure this went over her head while trying to read MLK quotes:

Hey, Sarah, stop playing the stupid card, okay? We're sick of you.

For a woman that couldn't even muster the backbone to finish her first and only term as governor of the lowest populated state in the nation, she sure has an awful big mouth!  When God gave out brains, she must have been in a different galaxy! This is so disrespectful. To casually quote such a great african american for the sole purpose of slinging a vague accusation against our first african american president? It's astonishing. When exactly did he play the race card, Sarah? If you have a legitimate gripe why didn't you actually state it?

QKster
QKster

@NorskBarrister Yeah, she's a real beacon of hope. She really captured MLK's spirit... Her strategy is to ignore racial issues in this country in the hopes that if we ignore them long enough and pretend they doesn't exist, those problems will just magically disappear. This has nothing to do with Obama's successes and failures as President. If anyone is small-minded, it's Sarah Palin for being so petty and completely missing the point of MLK day. Plus, you criticize those with a different political orientation than your own for doing something that you yourself have done in posting a comment. I have liberal beliefs as well as conservative ones. But if I vote for a Democrat or have some ideas left of center, that automatically makes me an unproductive member of society? Do you realize how narrow-minded that view is, and not to mention inaccurate? I'm a chemical engineer, by the way, and I feel that is a job that is very beneficial to society. The name-calling, hyperbole, and tendency to make sweeping generalizations is exactly why Congress is broken and why conversations in this country have become increasingly polarized and devoid of logical reasoning.

@WillieSomaYou may have missed this part also: I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Obama has been judged by the content of his character. His low polls have more to do with his condescending and dangerous assaults on freedom, his practice of continuing to allow Bush-era torture tactics, his failure to close Guantanamo Bay and other locations foreign to our government's proper jurisdiction where such inhumane practices take place, his socialist policies that destroy the principles of a free nation and have historically proven to be dangerous to life, liberty and any chance at the pursuit of happiness. Those things, which show the true content of his character, are more important to those of us who disagree with Obama than the amount of melanin in his skin.

JoeAmericanTime
JoeAmericanTime

@WillieSomaI think that's what she was pointing out about Obama's speech. On a day celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr., a man who believed in equality, Obama chooses to continue his self-serving rhetoric by promoting the racist-supremacist idea that his skin color absolves him from all reproach. Sarah Palin was right in calling him on that.

You must have missed the reverend's most famous speech in which he does indeed ask that people not play the race card.

"The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom."

@RB1 A fourth word her, the GOP, and the religious-conservative-totalitarian t-party try to hide. Moonie. Her reward for aid in the "World Peace King Tunnel" aka Bering Straight Tunnel? Vice President, failed of course. Follow Charlie Black. HR368 an example of anti-democracy 100% supported by the previously named. The implications of this go far beyond the debt ceiling BS they orchestrated. They claim to represent what's best for the USA as a cover for their true intention - totalitarianism and as Governor Rick Perry attests to - Joel's Army. No one who supports the USA can possibly support a resolution that puts even debating an issue on the floor of the US House of Representatives into the control of 1 man. But that's "Focus on the Family" technique - hide the true wickedness while presenting fluffy wooly coverings. AKA Wolves in Sheep's clothing.

@ExodusEExodus Or he could honor it as Sarah Palin did, and essentially say that we should honor MLK day by not talking about race. She completely missed the essence of MLK's spirit. Like it or not, Obama's election is a significant historical event in our country's history and in particular, the struggle of black Americans. It has nothing to do with his politics. Those should debated on their own merit and have nothing to do with Marin Luther King's ideals.

@paidattentioninclass“There’s no doubt that there’s some folks who just really dislike me because they don’t like the idea of a black President,” Obama said.

I'm sure there's some racists that feel that way, but if he won't admit than some just like him because he is black... he's pulling the race card - especially since he is implying that no one could possibly dislike him as president because he violates the Constitution every chance he gets. The content of his character is nil.

@paidattentioninclass Obama is a racist and uses the race card very often.  He is the POTUS he needs to keep is mouth shut about things like the Trayvon martin case and his professor friend getting arrested and many other comments he has made reference to race. Comments like he is not liked because he is black. he must have been liked by a majority of whites . because if he wasn't he would not be POTUS. typical race card bs comments.

PanamaRod
PanamaRod

@paidattentioninclass

I'll state it, but not for Sarah. but FYI:

Here are THREE incidents:

1. reported on on July 22, 2009 after a Cambridge, MA white policeman made a legitimate arrest on a black college professor, that Obama (knowing only the white/black arrest and nothing more) accused the Cambridge police of acting 'stupidly'. for which he apologize later to the "stupid" policeman at a Beer conference in the Rose garden.

2. Black Panther voter intimidation in Philadelphia on Nov 4, 2008. Obama’s black AG refused to make an arrest in this slam dunk conviction because it was black on white.

3. Obama flared up racial tension in the white George Zimmerman self-defense killing of the black Trayvon Martin when he issued this statement: ‘If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon’

BUT when a 24-year-old Danvers High School white teacher. Colleen Ritzer was brutally murdered by a 14-year-old black student who actually did look like he could have been Obama's son, Obama said NOTHING! There are probably more. Do your own research.

TiaMoore

Obama does mention his race a lot, this very article mentions two instances. Maybe he should stop making a point of it. Then he would be remembered for what he did instead of for what he looks like. Henceforth, not first black president but universal healthcare president.

@JoeAmericanTime @ClassyLady Joe-you play the race card constantly-deny it and you're a liar.

Like many people-I'm disappointed that Gitmo is still open-it's a smear on our history-that was intro duced by a republican president.  Deny that-and you're a liar.

Your anti Obama sentiment is nothing more that the parroting of conservative (con) fears.  Again-based in part in the fact that you lot are not happy with having an African American as President.  Deny it and you're a liar.  You talk a big game about equality and not caring about the color of his skin-but in reality it is everything to you lot.

There's nothing socialist about trying to bring affordable health to one and all in this country.  You rep cons really get confused about the difference between caring for people and a loser form of governing.  Deny that and you're a liar.

the obtuse behavior of rep con members government-rep con obstruction at every step of the legislative process-has been in part because we, the people, chose an African American President.  This was based on his performance-not on "the amount of melanin in his skin".  Deny that-and you're a liar.

Thankfully the NSA and its operations have been brought to light under this administration.  I can just imagine how bad it would have been if another republican administration had been in power.

Yes-this is an ad hominem attack on you, your disingenuous posts and your lying way of life.

QKster

@JoeAmericanTime Why is it that every time Obama talks about race, he's "pulling the race card"?  I have my issues with him as President, but I neither think everything he does is wrong any more than I believe he can do no wrong. The truth is that most people are uncomfortable talking about the racial issues that still plague this country, and would rather twiddle their thumbs and pretend everything is just fine and dandy and that racism died when we elected an African-American president.

What you have below is Joel's Army - much further progressed in 2014 than this warning article in 2008; the goal is to bring down democratic institutions; disguised as their Evil "Holy Spirit." Christians read Acts 5:1-11, there's your Holy Spirit an excuse for murder, and you believed the same man who saved a woman from being stoned then murdered two people over money. Then you have Rick Perry advocating Joel's Army. Then you have the GOP singing the funeral song "Amazing Grace" during debt ceiling battle. Finally you have HR368 implemented at this time, which is 100% totalitarian. The information on what these are about goes back through the "Nazi" misdirection used by the same. But hopefully soon the world will know what this has all been about, researched/investigated, and in the gasping mouths of many as you read this.

@Openminded1 @paidattentioninclass How is he racist? And there are many people who don't like him because he's the first black president. Unfortunately, this isn't surprising and it's true. If you read the whole thing, you would also know that he said there are people who like him simply because they like the idea of a black president. As for Trayvon Martin, why shouldn't he have commented? He's a parent just like anyone else. Many people are upset with that because they don't want to have the race conversation and it's uncomfortable.

paidattentioninclass

Playing the race card means using race to try to get preferential treatment or some kind of leverage in a situation where race is truly not a factor. Simply mentioning one's race is not playing the race card, in my opinion.

camdenfoley
camdenfoley

@TiaMoore Obama can stop playing the race card when the government policies and social norms stop favoring whites. 50% of black men are arrested on a non-traffic related crime before they are 23, and let me tell you it is not because all black men are born criminals, they face discrimination since they were born. White people on the other hand, Sarah Palin included, can't play the race card, but black people still can (they've got about 300 years worth of reasons why it's still relevant from slavery to Jim Crow to social poverty and discrimination. Sarah Palin is a plain rude and brash woman that has been known to speak her mind. The problem with that being that she speaks it without thinking at all before she does.

Openminded1
Openminded1

@QKster @Openminded1 @paidattentioninclass You are very naive, or you are black. No president in history has ever opened their mouth about a shooting of one person. That should have been a local central florida story. He made into a race card issue, just like when is professor buddy was arrested by a white cop. He is the President of the USA, not just black America. No white POTUS would have gotten involved with a case at that level. I have been around for 63 years and a retired cop who has seen many Presidents, and cases like the Martin  case with no comment from the White House. By the way I am Black .

PanamaRod

@paidattentioninclass I wouldn't call voter intimidation by threatening with billy-clubs, "petty" by any means. Voter suppression is a federal felony.

QKster

@JoeAmericanTime @TiaMoore You clearly don't know what socialism really means. I get frustrated with people who throw the term around like an insult without understanding it. Because otherwise, they would know that America does not resemble a socialist society. It's not even close. Even Europe isn't completely socialist, although obviously leans much more in that direction. And by the way, you know who was a proponent of socialism? Jesus, just look it up in the Bible. And I in no way support socialism, either.

Obama never said all the dislike directed at him is because of his race. He said "some" people dislike him for being the first black president. This is not pulling the race card. It's true. I know some of these people. He also said that the reverse occurs. Some people only like him because he is black. Or did you conveniently just forget that part? My take is that his unfavorability ratings are a result of us living in hard times and the President inevitably gets the blame. Much of that blame is warranted, some is not.

@Openminded1 @paidattentioninclass "..not to bright"? I do believe you meant "to" write: "...not "too" bright" because the spelling for which I suspect you were trying to say was T-O-O instead of T-O, that you erroneously used.
The word "to"  is a preposition that expresses a motion or direction toward a point.
AND
the word "too" is an  adverb that means: "very" !
THEREFORE
Someone who is "too" dumb "to" know this simple grammatical fact is "also" (another definition of the word, "too') "too' dumb "to" tell someone else that they are "to" dumb (you see? "to"  doesn't work as well as "too" would in this situation. So, if you are really "Openminded1" then you should change your 'handle' to "IM2Dumb" OMG! Look! another 'two" word.

@camdenfoley@TiaMooreYou're a racist. Show me a 300 year old black man and I'll agree with your statements. Social norms? Really? Nobody but you said they are born criminals. Listening to goofy foolishness like you just spewed and believing it leads them to criminal behavior by making them think that something that happened 300 years ago is justification for all sorts of bad behavior. Not all of them fall for it. And you live in a cave if you think government policies favor whites. How many affirmative action policies and quotas dictate that employers must hire whites or face a lawsuit?

Stop your racist ranting. There is racism, but the laws also prohibit it. There are black lawyers, judges, supreme court justices, the attorney general (racist though he is), even the president (when he isn't busy violating the rights of everyone equally). And lawyers do pro bono work every day. Free education is available to all. Books are cheap. The library is open. If you don't think a lawyer can defend you, defend yourself. In America, you have that right as well .

Another thing would be to promote the many good things that people of color have contributed to American culture and stop promoting gang-bang culture, sexism and other malevolent attitudes that foster racism from whites who use it to justify their racist beliefs and foster racism from disillusioned youth who try to live 'tha life' and wind up behind bars, blaming 'the white devil' rather than taking responsibility for their own actions. Fewer of those would make it easier to help people who shouldn't be behind bars but are there because of a legitimate injustice.

The problem with your racism is that you continue to propagate it even after thinking about it. In my opinion.
