Freedom Industries, the company believed responsible for the chemical spill in West Virginia last week, has filed for bankruptcy, the Associated Press reports.

The chemicals maker owns the facility along the Elk River at which a leaky storage tank released thousands of gallons of 4-methylcyclohexane methanol, a chemical used in coal processing, into the state’s water supply.

The incident led to a water ban across nine counties and massive disruptions in to every day life and economic activity in the state. Authorities began lifting the ban on water usage earlier this week.

Freedom Industries declined a request for comment from TIME.
