If you visit the Florida state capitol during the holidays, you can get your fill of ceremonial displays, but one from Satanists won’t be among them.

Florida’s Department of Management Services rejected Wednesday an attempt by Satanists to put up a display in the state capitol, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The group sought to add their display to a Nativity scene, a Festivus pole (composed of beer cans) and a crude rendering of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Calling the Statanists’ proposal “grossly offensive during the holiday season,” an official emailed the news to a group calling itself the Satanic Temple, which had sought to add its own display to the ones already at the capitol. A spokesman for the group said it was “surprised and dismayed” by the rejection, and that it would seek clarification as to why exactly the display proposal was rejected.
