A powerful ice storm that rolled through the midsection of the country Friday killed four people and knocked out power for more than 220,000 others.
The storm also forced the cancellation of more than 1,700 flights, including more than 1,000 at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport alone.
Authorities in Dallas canceled the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon planned for Saturday for the first time in 26 years amid concerns for the safety of participants and spectators. In Arkansas, Gov. Mike Beebe declared a statewide emergency to facilitate repairs to power lines.
While the northeast has so far escaped the impact of that storm, a separate snowstorm is expected to drop up to two inches of snow on New York City and Washington, D.C. Sunday.
