Forget the water fowl; one Colorado resident is preparing for drone-hunting season, which could begin as early as next week if he gets his way.

Phil Steel, a resident of Deer Trail, 50 miles east of Denver, is taking a stand against government surveillance. He’s calling forĀ an ordinance that would make it legal to hunt drones within the town’s limits — and it appears many of his neighbors agree with him.

Steel even held a practice session, shooting down small rockets that mimic the movements of unmanned aerial vehicles. “If it is flying under a 1,000-foot ceiling, then it is trespassing,” Steel told KDVR over the weekend. “The ordinance declares the supremacy and the sovereignty of the airspace above Deer Trail, Colorado.”

The town is set to vote on the ordinance on Dec. 10. If it passes, Deer Trail could begin charging $25 for drone-hunting licenses. More than 1,000 people have reportedly applied for the licenses. That could make future Amazon deliveries rather tricky.
