Inglewood police officers take up positions outside a residence, Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, in Inglewood, California.

Authorities in Inglewood, Calif., say a nine-hour standoff is over after a gunman, who reportedly shot a police officer and took two hostages, surrendered.

According to a report in the Associated Press, the 45-year-old suspect “gave himself up at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday and his two hostages — his girlfriend and her 14-year-old daughter — are safe.”

The melee kicked off when police were called to a home in Inglewood after receiving a domestic disturbance call. A man then began shooting at the police officers as they approached the house.

One officer was shot during the skirmish, but is expected to survive thanks to his bulletproof vest.
