A low-level Michigan cage fighter who pleaded guilty to armed robbery in March just weeks after faking his own death was sentenced Monday to years in prison.

Charlie Rowan, 26, pleaded guilty to robbing Guns and Stuff with his girlfriend Rosa Martinez and another friend, the New York Times reports. Rowan admitted he hit the 75-year old gun store owner with a hammer and then made off with eight handguns.

This all happened just weeks after Rowan had supposedly died in a car crash.

Rowan faked his own death in March to escape an $80,000 debt to his drug dealer by asking Martinez to tell everyone he died in a horrible accident, the Times reports. Then he hid while his family mourned him and set up a benefit fight in his honor.

He’ll serve between 7 1/2 and 40 years in prison for the robbery.
