The Florida teen who was accused of bullying a 12-year-old classmate who later committed suicide said Friday that she’s learned some lessons from the experience after charges against her were dropped, but that she “didn’t really do anything wrong.”

“I mean yes, there’s some things I could have changed, but I didn’t really do anything wrong,” Katelyn Roman, 13, said on CNN.

“Words do hurt, and you should use them carefully and try not to hurt people’s feelings,” she added. “You can bully and maybe not even know that you’re doing it.” She said she wants to start an anti-bullying campaign.

Roman was one of two girls accused of driving Rebecca Sedwick to commit suicide in September. Charges against them were dropped Wednesday. Jose Baez, Roman’s attorney, said she was arrested before police had sufficient evidence against her, and he threatened to sue police for releasing the girls’ names and photos.

“This child here did nothing wrong, did no criminal acts.” He said

Look let's be realistic, now we should criminalize child's play?? or bankrupt the parents of "bullies"? Come on ppl this is ridiculous, of course we are sad rebecca killed herself but this is not the way. We are wasting resources trying to convict kids for words ... do u remember being a child. Parent and kids need to be educated on bullying and kids should fight back, but here are lawyers trying to ride the fame by having this poor mother believe she can recover damage$ in a wrongful death suit. NOT TRUE don't believe me just google "wrongful death suit apleblog" and read that story on apleblog its well worth the read if you want the truth behind this story. besides it the same website that predicted the aggravated stalking charges will be dropped

The fallacy spewed by this girl's so-called attorney, that the girl has apparently been trained to parrot, is that something cannot be 'wrong' if it is not a criminal act.

Bzzzzt.

Of course it can.

I think they're simply trying to build up a case so they can sue and make money off of this tragedy.

I saw an interview with this girl on FOX"news". Of course the FOX talking head practically painted the bully as the victim. I can see why though, every person with their own show on FOX"news"  is a bully, they can't have bullies being shown in a negative light.

I find it interesting that when she was first arrested her father bent over backwards to apologize for his daughters actions, innocent I think not . I find it vile that she talks about wanting to participate in a anti bully program when she cant even admit to her own wrong doing. You can blame the victim all you want but this girl participated in her death....shame you you mom to raise a child with no empathy. Im sure she feels so important on the tv but to normal families we just know how pathetic you parenting skills are.

This girl had no contact nor had she said anything about Rebecca in a year. Rebecca obviously had other issues.

However, if you people feel the need to blame someone for charges being dropped, look no further than the big mouth, blow hard Sheriff. I have a feeling his need to grandstand for the cameras is a big part of that.

A girl is dead, this girl was involved  in harassing her,but in her mind, did nothing wrong leading to the death. The school did nothing about the death and the legal authorities willdo nothing.  The two harassers are getting away with murder.

@PhoenixPhyre75 really? This didn't happen? She didn't get suspended 8 months before the girl died?

According to the Polk County Sheriff, Katelyn Roman and Rebecca Sedwick were friends until Shaw convinced Roman to stop. The sheriff says that Shaw "instigating" Roman's bullying of Sedwick. In one instance, in February 2013, Shaw convinced Roman to beat Sedwick up. Roman has admitted to police that she bullied Sedwick and that she was sorry.

In February 2013, Roman was suspended for an attack on Sedwick.

@dellfloridaYou are getting away with trying to drive a young child to suicide by blaming her for a death she had nothing to do with.  It is people like you who believe in destroying a child's life based on bogus allegations, believe in destroying the life of a preteen girl without a trial, who teach children that mistreating each other is perfectly OK, no matter the consequences, as long as you FEEL it's right.  And it is people like you who drive young children to suicide.

@jessy.m.johnshe got suspended for fighting, just as Rebecca got suspended for fighting.   The facts remain there is NO evidence either girl had ANY contact with Rebecca for nearly EIGHT MONTHS, there is NO evidence Katelyn's conflict with Rebecca lasted longer than days, NO evidence she ever told Rebecca anything meaner than Rebecca herself told others, NO allegation by any witness Katelyn ever told Rebecca to kill herself  or anything similar, NO evidence she was a bully since bullying requires a power imbalance, and not a SINGLE example of any hateful online message sent by Katelyn despite Judd boasting of having mountains of Facebook evidence.

There is also NO evidence Rebecca's death had ANYTHING to do with bullying at all, even during the eight months after she left school.  There IS disturbing evidence that family abuse made Rebecca desperate -- she complained to DCF repeatedly of being abused at home and told both DCF and cops repeatedly she fears her mother and step-father.

From what I see, people like you are trying to drive a young child to suicide by blaming her for another child's death and trying to ensure she will be forever treated as a murderer.  And for all we know you will succeed -- hope you will be proud of yourself then.
