Feds Raid Marijuana Dispensaries in Colorado

It is not clear how many were targeted, or why

Federal agents raided marijuana dispensaries and growing sites in Colorado on Thursday, even though the Department of Justice has signaled it won’t interfere with state marijuana laws.

Loads of marijuana plants, cannabis-infused drinks, and other pot-related goods were confiscated in the raids by the DEA and the IRS, the Associated Press reports. It’s unclear how many sites were raided. The U.S. Attorney’s office in Denver said the action “comports with the Department’s recent guidance,” but did not elaborate further. The Department of Justice said in August that it wouldn’t interfere so long as states police black markets and keep the drug away from children and federal property.

Retail sales of marijuana for recreational purposes will get under way in January, after the state passed a referendum legalizing the drug last year. Dispensaries are already planning to sell recreational goods. Under existing law the dispensaries can only sell to those with medical permission.

“The Justice Department said it would respect states’ rights to regulate marijuana, and that it would not go after businesses as long as they are complying with state laws,” Mason Tvert of the Marijuana Policy Project said in a statement. “We hope they are sticking to their word and not interfering with any state-regulated, law-abiding businesses.”

This is the gang that can't shoot straight.  They need to have a little talk in the great cosmic wood shed.  Otherwise, folks are gonna conclude that they are all yack and no shack.

Prohibition of goods that people want NEVER works. Driving the commerce underground just makes it more profitable for criminals, dirty cops, and crooked border patrolmen.

DEA agents, border patrollers and vice cops of city police departments are scarier than drug dealers, who at least don't pretend (like drug cops) that their greed and bloodthirstiness benefit us in some way. Over-reaching cops & politicians are among the gravest dangers faced by America in the 21st Century in the continuing struggle to keep personal liberty alive.

Decriminalize cannabis now! Thousands are still in prison for minor violations of possession statutes. Tens of thousands of lives have been ruined as a result of cannabis prosecutions. NO ONE HAS EVER PROVEN THAT THERE IS A SINGLE HEALTH RISK ASSOCIATED WITH CONSUMING CANNIBIS. (Compare that to the millions alcohol kills every year).

Punish the crooked cops who are dirtier than the drug dealers!

Just make sure you follow up on this story.  I'm sure if its because they were selling product to the black market that this story won't be followed up on.  Not as sexy as dispensary in legal state raided for doing nothing

Obama! You hypocrite. Abolish the D.E.A. & stop this B.S.. I just wish the local cops would arrest those D.E.A. scumbags next time they trampled states rights! The D.E.A.'s only reason to exist is to feed the for profit prison industry. Shame on anyone who work for that orginisation. I guess the U.S. gov need somebody to make sure the C.I.A. can supplement it's budget by being the largest importer of drugs in the country.  I'd like to see the governor make a big deal out of this. Maybe even sue or put a seccession initiative on the next ballot.

@cardiacpa  Sorry, but the Government has a long history of setting people up for stuff like this. I'll take it seriously when they give an actual statement, with legitimate evidence, and not just conjecture.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COINTELPRO - Even if they did find guns, it doesn't mean they didn't plant them. Wouldn't even be the first time.

Oh yeah, and this- http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2012/07/2012721152715628181.html

How convenient is it that they're allowing cartel drugs in...and then busting them! So let's wait until there's real evidence to back up the government's claims before we put down our pitchforks, shall we?

@Duffman {facepalm}

Obama can’t “abolish” the D.E.A. because it was established by Congress.

Take a Civics class.

Breathe... Take a second and ask why they got raided...?? Oh wait, further activity far more serious than dope.....

Try to get at least two thirds of the facts right

@WilliamCarr@DuffmanApparently, Obama can do whatever he wants to do regardless of what Congress says.  For example, see how he recently re-wrote the healthcare law...
