Two people died after a small plane crash off the coast of Florida on Tuesday night, and two were still missing Wednesday morning.

The Learjet 35  aircraft, which was on its way to Cozumel, Mexico, went down in the Atlantic Ocean about three miles off the coast of Fort Lauderdale at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday night, a local NBC afiliate reports. Coast Guard rescue crews found the bodies of a man and a woman near the plane’s debris, but two people who were also on board were not immediately found. Crews continued searching for the two missing passengers into early Wednesday morning.

Rescuers were searching a debris field scattered across about 20 square miles, and more than 1,000 pounds of wreckage has been recovered.
