Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie signed a same sex marriage bill into law Wednesday.
The new measure allows gay residents and tourists to wed beginning Dec. 2, adding to the 14 states and District of Columbia where same sex marriage is legal. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is expected to sign a bill into law.
Abercrombie called a special session last month to review the island nation’s gay marriage law after the U.S. Supreme court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act of 1996 earlier this year. The bill moved swiftly through Congress but Rep. Bob McDermott, a House lawmaker plans to challenge the bill.
