A Mississippi man stands accused of killing a family that went missing last weekend after authorities found the family shot to death on Tuesday.

Timothy Lydell Burns, 42, is charged with murdering Atira Hughes-Smith, 30; her son Jaidon Hill, 7; and her husband, Laterry Smith, 34, the Jackson Clarion-Ledger reports. The family car was found Saturday by a passerby, overturned and set aflame in a wooded area of Copiah County, south of Jackson, Miss.

Authorities didn’t say how Burns was linked to the case. Burns led police to the bodies early Tuesday and Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones told reporters that the bodies are believed to have been taken from the car for disposal, while the vehicle was set on fire to cover up the evidence of the crime.
