A Transportation Security agent who was wounded in Friday’s shooting at Los Angeles International Airport spoke out for the first time on Monday. Tony Grisby, 36, who was shot in the right foot twice, read a statement outside of his home in South Los Angeles.

He held back tears as he spoke about slain officer Gerardo Hernandez, who Grisby considered a close friend.

“Only now it has hit me that I will never see him again. He was a wonderful person and a friend, and I will miss him,” the agent said. “I send my condolences to his family.”

The agent said he was helping an elderly man get to a safe area when he noticed the shooter, now identified as 23-year-old Paul Ciancia. Through it all, the agent said, he was focused on helping others.

“I didn’t worry about me,” Grisby said.
