Authorities in the Tar Heel State are scratching their heads after a recent bust unearthed a cache of explosives at a man’s home near Wilmington, North Carolina.

According to a report published by NBC, police found 24 bombs at the home of 37-year-old Erik Rudolph Arnebold along with firearms, methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Arnebold initially came to police attention during a drug investigation, but during the course of their probe police were lead to believe that he might have been making explosives.

Officials say the Arnebold’s house was also filled with barricades and outfitted with security cameras; however, authorities have yet to explain why the suspect had amassed such a vast arsenal of explosives. On Thursday, bond was set at $1.5 million.
