The Hawaii state Senate passed a bill legalizing gay marriage by a vote of 20-4 Wednesday.

The bill now moves to the state House, where it is expected to face a stiffer opposition, the Associated Press reports.

Hawaii’s Democratic Governor Neil Abercrombie, a gay marriage supporter, is openly supportive of the measure and is expected to sign it into law if passed.
