The gunman involved in a violent confrontation that wounded three local police officers and a federal immigration officer surrendered at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday after a multi-hour standoff in the suburbs of Sacramento, Calif.

The 32-year-old suspect, Samuel Nathan Duran, a wanted parolee, allegedly exchanged fire with police officers over the course of Friday. Two of the officers are stable, but the third was listed as in serious condition, reports the Associated Press.

A spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation would not say why Duran had been imprisoned or released, but authorities said Duran was believed to be carrying “assault-type weapons.”
